Brain Story

I was nervous because i hadn't gotten much sleep due to fact that my sleep cycle has been all screwed up. (hypothalamus) All I wanted to do was sleep because I was so tired. (reticular formation) It didn't help that as I looked down the starting line all I could see (occipital lobe) were the other athletes in the same position as me. As the time before the race decreased I could feel my heart trying to break out of my chest and run away.

Due to my nervousness my breathing quickened. (medulla) As the gun went off I kicked off with my right leg (left hemisphere) followed by my left. (right hemisphere) I was doing great right up until the first hill where I could really feel my legs push me
upward. (cerebellum) It was a hot and humid day so it was no wonder that at mile one I became extremely parched. (hypothalamus) I wanted to slow down after the first mile but i remembered (hippocampus) Cal telling us not to slow down in the second mile because so many people do so we need to keep our pace steady. As I was approaching mile two Dusty passed me, but I would not allow that. I surged and caught him (amygdala
because there was no way I was about to let him beat me. As we rounded the basketball courts I noticed that the path through the trees changed but that didn't throw me off, I just kept right on with my race. (Autonomic Nervous System) The path was narrow through the woods so as I entered I pushed Dusty to the side. (Somatic Nervous System) I'm not normaly a very aggressive person but I knew if I didn't push him away he would have done the same to me so I had to go against my normal personality. (Frontal Lobe) Cal was standing right outside the woods but I didn't even notice him because I was only focused on finishing this last mile as fast as I could. (Parietal Lobe) As I was nearing the finish I couldn't help but look around as all my teammates cheered me on. (Central Nervous System) After my race I was no longer nervous and was so happy I could feel my spirits lifting. (Pon)

Psychology

id_ego_superego_by_surreal32.jpgHave you ever been in a situation where you just aren't sure what you should do? half of you wants to just go off and have have, "I mean who cares if you get in trouble," it says. The other have, on the other hand, is telling you to really think about your actions, "is this really something you need to do? Are you willing to live with the consequences if it doesn't go as planned?" your other half may say. depending on which side you listen to will depend on whether you chose the Id or the Superego. You have three different parts of your brain, according to Sigmund Freud, your Id, Superego, and your Ego. Your Id is the "devil" part telling you to just do what ever you want when you want to regardless of the out come or sacrifices it will lead to down the road. Your Superego is the "angel" telling you that you should always do the right thing and really should never take chances. Your Ego is the middle ground, the best of both worlds. The Ego lets you do what's fun but makes sure it's not going to come back and bite your in the tushy. Here's a link to the Eminem song Guilty Conscience which i find is a great example of this. Video

I know everyone has been in a pickle, trying to decide what they should do. There have been times where I need to decide what would be the best action for me. I like to do what's right but I also like to break free sometimes and have fun. This is when my Ego comes into play. I need to find a common ground between the two so I can have fun but still be safe and fallow the rules. As long as you don't just listen to one part of your brain and almost listen to both equally you should be just dandy. Thanks for listening and like always feel free to post a response.

Blogging Assignment #1

When talking about myself three words come to mind, Maxwell Robert Gerrior; that's me. I'd say i keep things pretty laid back. I really enjoy making people laugh like my friend Peanut Butter. One thing that must people are surprised at is that when it comes to standing in front of a large group of people i freeze up and get nervous. People are shocked at this revelation because I'm such an out going person and usually am all for chiming in, but for some reason standing in the front of a classroom with every one's eyes on me just freaks me out. If i am safely seated at my desk and everyone is listening or looking at me I am fine but just being up front is too much to handle sometimes. One fun fact about me is that I was named after Abraham Lincoln; you know that tall guy. (is you have a question about this feel free to comment) I am currently living in the 920, HALLA, and can be seen cruisen in my '92 Toyota P.O.S. My whip's name is Tammy and has been with my family almost as long as i have been. She may not have a never nice bass but I still get that baby bumpin. I'm also a very social person and am usually found with one of my many friends, not to toot my own horn or anything. I am a avid XC and distance track runner. I am currently under the control of The Great Cal Kromm. This year my Track goal is to run a sub 5 min mile. I know that if I run all winter I will get my goal and maybe even get some pecs; you know, for the ladies. To tell you the truth i really don't much about Psych but have heard great things about this class and already knew Mrs. Dubz. I hope to gain enough knowledge to help me succeed in not only this class but for the rest of my life. Now the announcements are on, so I'll talk to you bloggers later.
